My bud Brian and I have been talking about this bike for a while now. He was looking for a bike to ride with The World Famous Wheelie-ing Elvi. He wants a CRF/XR50 based bike with rear seat pegs, an ass-friendly wider and longer seat, a little extra power, left hand rear brake, and a metal tank and fenders. As far as styling, 1980's BMW "M" series white with red and blue stripes, blue alloy wheel rims, and a dual exhaust. Brian wanted minimalist styling befitting the BMW theme. To that end, the engine was done in a matte finish. The rear section was cut off and a larger diameter 3/4" steel tube was used to form a new top loop. There are reinforcing gusset plates extending to the tail of the bike, where a swingarm bolt slides through the tail tubing to mount the seat pegs. The frame has been de-tabbed. Waiting on the swingarm and wheels, and a CR80 seat that I am hoping can be adapted to this frame/tank combo. A 1988-99 year model Z50 tank will be used. I mocked it up with a CRF50 seat laying on there. The seat is too short and not wide enough, but gives you an idea where its headed.
Major fab just about done on the CB500T.
Finished up the fender mounts, the seat latch, the front fender rivets, and one of the two rear fender mounts. Got the headlight bracket made but not mounted. Still need a license plate bracket, a little stopper under the left muffler can for the center stand to rest against, a tunnel under the rear fender to house the tail light wire, and seal some holes on the fender to be done with fabrication.
The Honda CB500T Build goes on...
Getting some more done on the 1975 CB500T. An extra used stock muffler was aquired for its clamp. The new cans are in place, and the precise level of tilt decided. The rear end is off the bike in preparation for the fender relocation. The fender will be attached to the swingarm, and float just above the tire. The seat pan has been made and awaits some brackets. The front fender was shortened by taking out a segment in the middle and re-welding.
